Female vocal recording started!

Suvi here after a while - phew, what a busy summer it's been!

But now that it's over and whilst we've conveniently go the autumn
blues as a result, the timing couldn't be better for recording my vocals.

Even though I met Tonmi on Saturday after his Ajattara gig and was able to
discuss some of the things to come in the recordings, I was really nervous
on Monday before going to the studio. By the way, it was really cool to
see him play live for once - usually I have my back turned on him and
can't see shit of his excellent playing on stage. To this he said: "yeah,
and it's cool to see something else for a change than your ass in front of
me while I'm playing" Hahahaha, I bet it is!

We started the whole thing on Monday and got one song practically
finished, which is pretty good for a first day's work, we also only had
about 4 hours time put together. We recorded Scion as well, but Tonmi and
I weren't too happy with the results, so we decided to give it another
shot some other day when I wasn't so tired. Pusa and J. were at the studio
too, which is nice because I always had someone to fetch me a steaming cup
of rosehip tea when I needed it... ;)

Yesterday we started at 6 p.m. It was just Tonmi and me this time, and
that turned out to be a far better solution - I seem not to be as nervous
or irritable in the studio with only him and his expertise around. And of
course the fact that I can concentrate on listening to him and his ideas
is better than having a room full of people shouting on top of each other,
everyone disagreeing - during those moments you can really feel alone and
abandoned standing by yourself in a recording booth ;) And since I have
such great trust in him (famous last words!) I feel safe to let him make
the decisions about the production and the final versions of the melodies.

We started recording Zenith, got its leads finished, then worked on Ouija
and to our surprise got its leads also finished. Although we were
already ahead of schedule, we decided to give Scion another shot while
waiting for J. to come pick us up. We thought that if it wouldn't take off
well, we would just keep on passing it on to some other day - after all,
we only had less than an hour to work on it, and it is a very difficult
song to sing due to the fact that it's not only very melodic but it also
rocks, and it should be sung accordingly. We were both happy to realize
how easily it flowed and were able to re-record everything we weren't
happy with yesterday.

So now after only two evenings at the studio we have accomplished a lot
more than we anticipated. Here's hoping for these lucky stars to keep on
shining down on us. I feel like these vocal tracks are a lot better than
what I usually let out of my mouth, and even though that probably doesn't
count as much in comparison to some other, better singers, I have a good
feeling about this.

Rock on
Suvi
