Johannes Laitila: Goodbye

By the bend of the river, along which we walked together, there's a tree so tall that no one could see the top from the ground, the top from the ground.

Yesterday I was there trying to figure out whether or not I would care if I saw the tree and then tried to climb and then found out there'd be nothing to grab hold of, to grab hold of.

But so is life, or so it seems: you just sway and keep floating in space. You try to hold on to what you have and try to move on with no idea where you will land, where you will land.

...

I have not met you, I don't even know your name, but let's just say goodbye now - then we don't have to do it when we part ways, when we part ways.
