Leapyear: No Ghosts

They claimed that their kind had done nothing wrong.
It was written down into books,
shipped into libraries
endorsed by the authorities
and by stern parents
who had always made their own beds.

The shuffle of pages,
one single voice (a monotonous voice) telling me, hypnotically, to feel good about myself.
A promenade of figures in party dress. Military men. So many men, no women anywhere, the women have all disappeared.
Some things are best left forgotten.
It didn’t happen, we did nothing wrong. Here is our version of how it went, now run along.
No ghosts to haunt you, no people wronged.
